I graded quizes for a collegue a few days ago. The average grade was 50%.
Now, he’s a good teacher, I know the material was there for them, they chose not to learn it.
As I was grading. the students were doing a lab, it was Chemistry class.
I was listening to a couple of girls ‘rapping’ a song in the back of the lab.
I didn’t get all the words, and I’ll give the ‘ladies’ credit, they did bleep out a few. But they knew every word.
Did I mention the average quiz grade was 50.
I had an epiphany.
I remember a friend (a physics teacher) saying “If I could sing history, I could learn it.”
I mean after all, how’d you learn your ABCs?
You sang it.
And “In fourteen hundred ninety-two, Columbus sailed the ocean blue” is actually the first line from a song.
So, let’s rap our way through history, and chemistry, and English.
Apparently, this is what we’ve become!
