January is named after Janus, the god of the doorway; the name comes from Roman Mythology; and you know me loves me some myths!

The word has its origins in the Latin word for door since January is the door to the year.

You know, New Year’s Day and all.

Janus was the Greek god of doors, gates, time, beginnings, and oddly enough, endings.

Who knew?

Janus was a two faced god as well.

Two faced god.

He was mostly used to symbolize change and transition such as the progression of past to future;  you may remember, I’m not a fan of change.

And even though January allows for a new year, a fresh start, resolutions and all, it…what’s the word I’m lookng for…yeah, it sucks.

Things I hate about January:

  1. Colder weather.
  2. Wintery mix.
  3. Snow.
  4. The gym is crowded, seems like the whole month is “fat rascals month“.  All the posers are there.
  5. I get blue.
  6. I get cold.
  7. My nose runs.
  8. I sneeze more.
  9. The tanning salon isn’t open seven days a week.
  10. There are no “real” holidays.
  11. My heating bill goes UP.

Frankly, I think we should skip it.
