Seems every one has been hit by the “housing crisis”.

My assessed value dropped about forty grand in the past couple of years, oddly enough, my taxes went UP!

But, alas, I’m not the only one.  And I’m in good company.  Really, I keep telling myself I shouldn’t feel so badly.  I’m not the only one suffering.  Look at some of the former Presidents’ homes and what their families are having to endure.

The Reagan family home in tony Bel-Air, California has dropped to a mere $7.1 Million.  Down about 40% from its peak value.

What is a family to do?

But Ron’s widow and family aren’t the only ones either.

The Presidential Real Estate market has “plummeted”  some would say.

The Kennedy Compound –

Jack and Jackie in better days.

“Values here are down 25% to 30%,” says Amy Massey-Weider, who runs the Century 21 Shoreland real estate brokerage in Hyannis.  But at least their taxes went down nine grand a year.  Are you listening Governor Perdue?

Not that anyone in the Kenndy Klan is rushing out to sell anything.  After all, the property has been in the family clutches possession for decades.

And what’s our current President to do.  His neighborhood has dropped as well.

Not the White House.

Knock off the renovations that the first couple made, and the increase in value from purchasing a slice of neighboring land from convicted fraudster Tony Rezko, and the president’s home is worth around $1.65 million,  Maybe it’s the neighbors!

It’s down about 20%.    Thanks Tony!

Even some long gone Presidents’ casas have crashed.

Woodrow Wilson’s home in New Jersey is down 30% to 50%, Grover Cleveland’s is down 40%, and Zachary Taylor’s Louisville, Ky mansion is down about 17%.

Of course, it’s all one can do to keep from pittying the poor Clintons.  The former first couple and former Senator from Illinois Arkansas Yale New York current Secretary of State have TWO homes in the crapper.

Their 5,100 square foot, four bedroom Washington, DC bungalow has dropped 20% to a paltry $4.5 million.

Hillary's Close to the Hill Hideaway.

And their New York home in Chappaqua is down to $1.3 million.  That’s a 48% drop.

Well, maybe they can write some more books.

The only one that hasn’t moved in either direction is the San Clemente, California home of Richard Nixon he called “Casa Pacifica”.

Nixon Knew Real Estate!

Maybe Tricky Dick is still in control afterall!  Now, that’s a scary thought!

Once I Built A Railroad, Made It Run
Made it race against time
Once I built a rairoad, now it’s done
Brother can you spare a dime?
Once I built a tower to the sun
Brick and rivet and lime
Once I built a tower, now it’s done
Brother can you spare a dime?

Seems everyone’s singing it these days.
