Sam stood there day after day watching the key as it turned against the shaft of the oil drill.
The well-worn and crusty metal element, he knew, was the key to his success.
But success wasn’t coming.
As he left the oilfields each day, he gave UP.
But his hope renewed with every sunrise; he was sure this new day held the key, this new day the oil would come, the bit would hit its mark, the key would grip the gear, and the well would open.
Yes, this time the well would hand him the key to a new life.
Each week, the lovely and talented Ivy Walker hosts a link-up challenging writers to spin a tale in six sentences – no more, no less. This week’s prompt was key.
