She’d ask him to cut that limb a thousand times she was sure.

But, there it was tap, tap, tapping against the window.

Yes, she told herself, it was a gentle tapping: a gentle, rhythmic beat that, if she’d let it, could lull her to sleep.

Suddenly, the wind grew stronger, the tapping became a banging, the banging a pounding.

And then a crash.

Snatched from her slumber, she realized the tapping had stopped, she’d not been dreaming, and he stood over her.
