Christopher Latham Sholes acquired a patent for the machine on June 23, 1868.
There had been other type writing machines, but he’s the dude who came UP with the QWERTY keyboard that we all know and “love”!
The first one didn’t the numbers 0 or 1, l and o were filling in for them at that time. It didn’t have QWERTY at first either. He invented that to slow typists down. They were going so fast the keys stuck together breaking the machines.
Yeah, they hated him too!
