I had breakfast somewhere other than the Waffle House on Saturday.
…I’ll give you a couple of minutes to recover…
Anyhoo, it was a special occasion, and since dinner on Saturday was out of the question due to a previous engagement, I decided to take you know who out to breakfast for the birthday celebration.
To most people, breakfast out is a treat, to me, a daily occurrence. And 99.99% of the time I’m at Waffle House.
I’m a breakfast fan, devotee, it’s an ism for me, practically a religion. So, going to breakfast wasn’t unusual. Trying someplace new was.
I’m also a creature of habit.
But, it wasn’t all about me, and frankly, I don’t know how that happened, and we went elsewhere.
The choice; something new, The First Watch
The place was pretty, trendy, and decorated in a faux 1960s style.
The service was excellent, James, our server – and when did that change from waiter and waitress to server? – was great, friendly, and attentive. And very clean cut, as a matter of fact, every one working there looked squeaky clean – a good quality in a restaurant.
The coffee – OK, just OK.
The food, pretty, well presented, and very good.
We tried the Bacon and Onion Hash –
…and Eggs Benedict Florentine –
I’m a big eggs Benedict fan, and the avocado, tomato, and spinach – all fresh – were a nice touch.
It was good food. And I’ll probably go back.
As always, when going anywhere, doing anything, or trying something new, I like to hear the story behind the event, or the place.
The First Watch was started in the early 1980s by a few former US Sailors. Seems they were always on the ‘first watch’ in the Navy, and the name just worked. They opened several restaurants in California – which explains the early foray into healthier breakfast choices – and expanded. They had a falling out, went their separate ways and started First Watch stores in other places: Ohio, Kansas City, and Florida.
After a few years, things died down, forgiveness came into play, and they reunited all the restaurants under one umbrella, which BTW, is located in Sarasota, Florida.
If there is a First Watch in your area, and you love breakfast out – and who doesn’t? – check them out.
Reasonably priced, breakfast for two was $22.00 before tip, it’s worth at least a try.
For all my Atlanta readers, it’s located at 11720 Medlock Bridge Rd, Johns Creek, GA 30097.
I enjoyed it very much, but I will admit that I was a bit worried when I took my napkin ring off and saw this…
…we all know that’s just not possible!
