Today is the birthday of the peace symbol.
It is actually the symbol for the Committee for Nuclear Disarmament, and was displayed for the first time on April 4, 1957.
The CND advocates unilateral nuclear disarmament for the UK and international nuclear disarmament.
They are not winning right now.
The Peace Symbol was designed by Gerald Horton in 1958. Horton, an artist and designer made the symbol for a march from Trafalgar Square in London to the Atomic Weapons Research Establishment at Aldermaston, a distance of just under 52 miles.
The olive branch and dove represent peace as well, but the peach sign as we know it was the hallmark of the cultural revolution in the US and the UK during the 1960s.
I’m all for world peace, I’m just not sure how we get there.
