His salacious essay entitled “Hot for Teacher” got Joseph Corlett, a 57 year old builder, booted from Oakland University near Detroit.
Mr. Corlett, at that time a journalism and creative writing major, now resides in the sunny state of Florida where hotness is not a problem.
But, apparently it is in the Motor City.
While in English 380: Advanced Critical Writing, Mr. Corlett was given a writing assignment. Imagine that, a writing assignment in English. Mildred would be astonished!
The former BMOC said that the instructor, an apparently hot blonde named Pamela Mitzelfield, told the class they could “write about anything”, and she “wanted the raw stuff to come out”.
Be careful what you ask for comes to mind.
Corlett’s essay contained passages like, “…There is no way I’ll concentrate in class especially with that sexy little mole on her upper lip beckoning with every accented word.” and, “I’ve had a few worries lately, the first that Lynn Anne, my wife, would read this. But now I don’t care. I suppose my fear is a good sign that I’m writing honestly.”
He also compared Ms. Mitzelfield to Ginger on Gilligan’s Island.
Well, he is 57.
Now, Mr. Corlett is in court. He’s suing the school for $2.2 million. He claims the public university violated his First Amendment right to freedom of expression and he’s suffered mental anguish and humiliation.
Did I mention he was suspended for a year?
Corlett’s lawyer claims it was “a whimsical exaggeration of his attraction…”
Ms. Mitzelfield and the school board were not so amused. He was lead from her class by police officers, suspended from the school for the remainder of the semester, and was told he couldn’t come back until he had attended ‘sensitivity training’!
The lawsuit names the entire board of trustees and a couple of muckety mucks at the school.
I, like most Van Halen fans and defenders of the Bill of Rights, hope he wins! Big!
Ms. Mitzelfield is not named in the lawsuit. Obviously, Corlett is still Hot for Teacher!
