On this day in 1762, Catherine The Great became Empress of Russia in a bloodless coup d’etat.
Her husband, Tsar Peter III was murdered three days later.

I guess it didn’t stay bloodless.
Catherine was out of town, and unavailable for comment at the time of Peter’s death.
