I Love Julia Roberts…

…but, is she really worth $20 million a movie?
I mean, c’mon, Enough is Enough!!
Recently, the Wall Street Journal reported that Regal Cinema Corp. is raising movie prices.
Thanks, Hollywood. Aren’t these economic times hard enough without you screwing us out of a little more cash.
The last trip to see a movie, the name of which I no longer remember, cost me about $40.
Tickets – $20
Popcorn, Cokes, and Raisinettes, because ya gotta have ‘em - $20.
And I can’t even remember what the name of the movie was or who was in it!
With millions of people out of work, prices out of control, and the economy in the toilet, can’t Hollywood give us a break?
Really, Julia, George, Meryl, et. al. don’t you think a pay cut is in order for you as well? Afterall, teachers everywhere are getting furloughed!
There are disasters aplenty in Hollywood, and we all pay dearly to see them…which reminds me, the next time there’s a disaster in the world, don’t hold a telethon and ask me for money.
You make $20 million plus per picture…you build a new school in Haiti!
Thank goodness the library’s still free!

Unless it is a ’super special’ occasion, we wait for the movies to come out on DVD. Thank you, Redbox, for a cheap & easy way to rent!

Oh I concur! I have always found it ridiculous that stars can act like philanthropists all they want, but when it comes down to it they aren’t any better than the fellows up on Wall Street who hold tight to their cash. My husband can’t find a decent job, and Julia makes one movie and makes more money than most people hope to see in YEARS? How is THAT fair?

I agree with you 100%, unfortunately, they make what WE are willing to pay.

I thought you people were against wealth re-distribution and penalizing the rich for being rich??
This is why you’ll never see politics on MIU – Jenny and I have agreed to disagree and not mention it ever

You people?
This was political?

Ok, UP… this is not a political statement… just a frugal (and probably not-so-honest confession).
The last movie we went to see as a family was Alice in Wonderland. We drove about 20 minutes to the smaller town with the cheaper theater to go see it. It’s nothing fancy… just a run down old theater (aka no stadium seating and yes, the floor is a little sticky). I call it the Wal-Mart theater. We also *aheam* smuggled in our drinks and snacks. A trip to the grocery for a bag of candy and a LARGE PURSE does wonders to cut down on candy expenses. I even let my oldest daughter take her purse in… for extra room
It only cost about $20 for the family of four to see the movie on opening night… in the hillbilly nearby town.

About 10 to 15 plus years ago I loved “Julia”.. Bit sick of that laugh of her’s that shows up in every movie since. The last movie I saw in theater was … George of the Jungle. The kids still talk about how I laughed out loud. I’ve got a wide screen t.v. & surround sound. Not to mention my microwave can make some mean popcorn. Why would I want to go to the movies. PS. The rest of the family goes to 1 or 2 movies a year. Usually sci fi.
