Amen. His wording is despicable for two reasons. (1) Individuals with disabilities deserve the same respect as other people - maybe more. Believe me, if they could choose, they wouldn't have challenges like mental retardation. And (2), his comment essentially claims that anyone who doesn't agree with him has impaired brain functioning. People, we have got to start being more open-minded about differences of opinion. The arrogance of our White House staff is appalling. Our government should be serving Americans. It appears to me that they are serving themselves and damning anyone who doesn't agree with their skewed vision. Nope, sorry, Emanuel, I don't accept your apology on my son's behalf or anyone else for that matter. Obama should fire his butt if he wants to make a statement about the role of our government and its desire to respect and honor its citizens. If Emanuel had referred to some group as a bunch 'f - ing n - s', he would have already gotten his walking papers.

Yikers, that was super not-smart. I also think that Shriver can't accept the apology for everyone though, I think Rahm just needs to grovel and say he is sorry, and it is up to individuals to decide whether he is sincere or not.

Thanks for speaking out! When are politicians going to learn that everything that comes out of their mouths will become public at some point? It is hard to imagine that Emanuel does not have someone in his own circle of family and friends who has a disabled loved one.
