There is no denying Alec Baldwin can act.

In fact, I think he’s acting most of the time.

Universal Studios Cinema

But Alec, dear Alec, says he’s lost interest in acting.

Really?

Or is this just another act?

He “considers his film career a failure”.  Now, I saw “Malice”, he was pretty good, and very convincing.  I’d probably put that one in my top 100 movies to watch list.

He says, “I just don’t have any interest in acting anymore.”

Again, Really?

“Movies are a part of my past. It’s been 30 years. I’m not young, but I have time to do something else”.

Ok, just what is that “something else”?

Alec started his acting career in the early 80s on TV.

Men’s Journal quoted Baldwin as saying it was ‘pretty much it for him after “30 Rock”, ‘ in a couple of years or so’.  He told Playboy Magazine (NO, I do not read Playboy) recently that he was ‘done’ with his career in 2012 and would retire at the “30 Rock” wrap party.

“I consider my entire move a career a complete failure.”  ” The goal of movie making is to star in a film where your performances drives the film, and the film is either a soaring or commercial success, and I never had that.”

Oh, Poor Alec…he was in at least one movie with Julia Roberts (Knotting Hill) and it was a soaring success, so stop whining!

He also claims to ‘never give a moment’s thought’ to the movies he is in.  He ‘just avoids them’.

Again, really?

Quite frankly, if I were in a movie, good or bad, I’d watch it every day.  We all would.  It has to be thrilling to know you are up there on that giant screen ‘entertaining’ the world.

So, what’s his new act?

Alec has mentioned that he’s ‘interested’ in politics.

So am I, but that doesn’t mean I’m a runnin’ for office.

I’m guessin’ that after he hosts the Emmys along with Steve Martin next year, and he wraps “30 Rock” in a couple, he’ll look for a government job.  One you buy with OPM, one you get elected to.

I suppose he wants to try to help the little people who can’t think for themselves…you know, fix the world, tell us all what we should do and think from an elected position.

Let’s just hope he doesn’t run for a DFACS job, or the Parenting Czar.

Again, he’s an actor, so we’ll never really know where he stands.  And we’ll never be able to tell if he’s acting or on or real.

My Mother, a staunch Republican who loved Ronald Reagan, always said, “he’s an actor first.”  So, who knows!

Just in case you’re not sure…and you might be inclined to support him ’cause he’s just so darn cute on Satruday Night Live…here are some things he’s had to say.

Cheney is a terrorist. He terrorizes our enemies abroad and innocent citizens here at home indiscriminately.  (UP again…Dick’s not my BFF, but he doesn’t terrorize me.)

FAT IN THE HAT

Doing these parts is not fun. It’s challenging, but no fun. It’s creepy. I would rather play the guy that throws the touchdown pass and gets carried off the field.  (UP again…referring to Malice and other serious roles.)

Down with Dukes of Hazzard! (UP…Why? South bashing!)

I feel I’m two people: I have my interest in acting and I have a lot of other political interests I’d like to pursue. (UP says…Lookout!)

I think my exact comment was that if Bush won it would be a good time to leave the United States. I’m not necessarily going to leave the United States. (UP remembers…No, your exact comment was “if Bush wins, I’m leaving the country…”.)

I wanted to be president of the United States. I really did. The older I get, the less preposterous the idea seems.  (UP warns…again…lookout!…)

Let’s face facts, this is visual medium, there’s a very high premium put on people who are good-looking. But the minute you rely on that you get yourself in trouble. You certainly don’t make a career out of that anymore as an actor.  (UP thinks…No ego problem there.)

Remember, sex is like a Chinese dinner. It ain’t over ’til you both get your cookie. (UP…ewww…Thanks for the overshare.)

There are people who would rather choke than go see my movies. They write me letters all the time. (UP…Hmmmmmm)

There’s less critical thinking going on in this country on a Main Street level – forget about the media – than ever before. We’ve never needed people to think more critically than now, and they’ve taken a big nap. (UP…Yes, your TV show is putting us to sleep.)

To be in this business and have tremendous integrity and only make distinguished choices is very tough. (UP feels strongly…Tough, no, impossible, yes.)

You have actors who begin at a certain young age and there’s very little change in their technique and the depth of their performances; they’re the same 30 years later.  (UP…As are you.)

Like I said, he can act.

Do we really want him acting for us rather than in front of us?
