Well, We Made It…

…through Friday the 13th.
Not that I was worried or anything, as I’m not all that superstitious.
But many people are. Henry Ford would not do business on a Friday the 13th. 2009 would have freaked him out, crappy car sales aside, there are three Friday the 13ths this year, and that’s the most we can have in one year. Hmmm…maybe we’re onto something. This hasn’t been the greatest year. Flood, famine, financial disaster….BTW. the fear of Friday the 13th is called Paraskevidekatriaphobia. Paraskevi means Friday, dekatria means thirteen and phobia means fear.
Some folks are just flat out afraid of the number 13. There are no 13th floors on most buidlings, Otis Elevator refuses to put the number 13 on any elevator, and many people won’t schedule surgery on any 13th day, Friday or not.
That’s called triskaidekaphobia, simply the fear of 13.
Some folks are just afraid of Friday. They won’t buy a car made on a Friday because they are supposed to have more problems, (Monday’s are worse, since some folks have had a “rough” weekend) won’t leave the house on Friday, won’t take a job or start working on Friday, and won’t get married, make major changes, move, or travel. That’s simply Paraskeviphobia, or the fear of Friday.
Now, if someone suffers from Paraskevidekatriaphobia and triskaidekaphobia they’d better not suffer from hippopotomonstrosesquippedaliophobia, which is the fear of long words!
Hope you had a good Friday The 13th!

I copied the DVBS article and sent it to every Preacher on my mailing list. That was really great, and I printed out a copy for Mother to read in the AM. Thanks for the memories. I think I had as much fun as you did. Love Dad
